Two No-Cost Tips for Looking AMAZING in Your Videos
STOP! Before you read any further, we need to know…
Do you want to:
Look younger in your marketing videos?
Eliminate the shadows that make you look like a ghoul and your background look like a horror movie set?
Reduce the glare from your glasses?
Seem friendly and approachable in your videos?
Present yourself from the most flattering angle?
Alright, enough questions. If you answered “yes” to any of the above, then this is the blog post for you.
Because we’ve got two no-cost tips for doing it all!
Tip #1: Make sure the lighting is coming from above you.
This casts the shadows down and out of camera range, reduces the intensity of wrinkles, and decreases glare from your specs.
Simple, right? That’s why videos shot outside often look the best; the sun is usually above you! Try standing near a window if you have to be indoors, or use ring lights if you need some extra brightening.
Tip #2: Make sure that the angle you’re shooting from shows minimal “head space.”
Head space literally means the space above your head in your video. The ideal amount puts your eyes level with the camera so that your viewer feels like they’re having a one-on-one conversation with you. If you shoot from too low with too much head space, you risk the dreaded “double chin” look!
Too much head space makes it seem like the viewer is looking up at you -- not great for inspiring a personal connection. It also puts the important part of your video (your face!) at the bottom of the screen, which is often covered up by app interfaces.
Watch a video on Instagram or Facebook. Where are the controls? Yup, at the bottom. So, shoot higher, shoot less head space, and keep the important stuff above the controls.
Now, we said no more questions, but we actually have one more...
